Centre Group Proposal for an AI Center Becomes Reality

In 2023, Mittengruppen proposed the establishment of a Nordic knowledge center for artificial intelligence (AI). This is now becoming a reality, something that Mittengruppen welcomes.

A few weeks ago, the Nordic Council of Ministers announced that they intend to allocate five million Danish kroner to establish a Nordic AI center. A formal decision on the matter is expected shortly. The issue was raised as early as 2023 by the Centre Group (Mittengruppen) during the Nordic Council session in Oslo.

Mittengruppen believes there is a need to bring together various stakeholders to discuss different aspects of AI, such as ethics, regulation, education, innovation, and security. The development of AI has since continued at a rapid pace, making the proposal more relevant than ever.

“Together, as pioneers in the digital landscape, we can ensure a future where innovation goes hand in hand with responsibility,” said Mittengruppen’s chairperson Hanna Katrín Friðriksson during the session in Oslo.

The AI center now being planned will operate both in the Nordic countries and the Baltic states.
